The use of the internet for extortion, dating scams, and other social vices by students is engaging the attention of authorities at tertiary institutions.
The principal of University of Education College of Agriculture Education says the situation is getting out of hand.
Reverend Professor Anthony Afful-Broni was speaking at the matriculation of the college at Asante-Mampong.
He wants students to explore the positive side of Information and Communication Technology for addressing challenges confronting communities.
“We want them [lecturers] not only teach [students] how to read and write but teach them discipline and morality because if they themselves are able to be people of morality and good character they will influence and more effectively teach and train and influence the youth and adult of our society and this will be a very great contribution to nation building from our universities”.
Reverend Professor Afful-Broni also cautions students against occultism, promiscuity, and negative peer influences at the expense of their books.
He announced the college has procured laboratory equipment to begin commercial laboratory services.
