The Graphic reports on its front page that Cabinet has endorsed a number of bills including an amendment to sections of the Criminal Code on sexual offences and offences against children. In a story headed:: "Cabinet proposes changes", the Graphic says the bills are to be forwarded to Parliament for consideration and action on them. The Graphic says under the proposed amendments, defilement of a child will attract a minimum penalty of seven years imprisonment and a maximum of 25 years without the option of a fine. Rape will attract from five to 25 years without the option of a fine. GRI

"Chronicle editor challenges SFO", is the headline of another front page story in the Graphic which says the Publisher and Editor-in- Chief of the 'Ghanaian Chronicle', Nana Kofi Coomson has insisted that the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), has issued a report on the privatisation of Ghana Telecom. According to the Graphic, Nana Coomson said the 128-page report is titled "investigations into the development of rural telecommunication network in Ghana and into the district centres and important towns and the application for credit facilities". The paper says Nana Coomson showed what he claimed was a copy of the said report at a news conference in Accra yesterday and said the report was issued on November 15, 1996. GRI

The Graphic reports in its centre spread that a Koforidua High Court will on September 24, decide on whether or not to grant bail to Edward Anim Densu, former East Akyem District Chief Executive who has been charged with murder. Densu, allegedly shot dead two persons in April, this year during the funeral of the assemblyman for Adasawase near Anyinam in the Eastern Region. The suspect has since been in custody. GRI
