The Graphic carries on its front page a treason trial story and the pictures of five persons who are alleged to have plotted to overthrow the government in 1994. Under the headline "The Big Trial...All set for speedy hearing from Tuesday", the Graphic in its lead story reports that recording gadgets are being installed in an Accra High Court in readiness for the trial of five persons who are alleged to have plotted to overthrow the government in 1994. The paper says the installation of the gadgets is expected to pave the way for an expeditious trial of the accused persons. In view of this, the Graphic says the court yesterday adjourned proceedings to October 28 to enable the installation to be completed. Alex Ofei, a technician, Kwame Ofori Appiah, a cleaner, Sylvester AddaeDwomoh, a teacher, John Owusu Boakye, a student nurse and Emmanuel Osei Kofi, a driver, are on trial for treason. GRI

"Commission on Children petitions CHRAJ...Over 14-year-old JSS pupil being forced into marriage", is the headline of a centre spread story in the Graphioc. It says the Ghana National Commission on Children (GNCC) has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the case in which a 14-year-old girl at Busunya, is being forced into marriage. The girl, a JSS pupil Two pupil, has already been withdrawn from school by her family to become the stool wife of the Omanhene of Nkoranza, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV. She is expected to be delivered to the chief on November 14, this year. Okatakyie Kudom has however, rejected the offer of the girl and has consequently requested the girl's family to "set her free" to continue her education. GRI

In a back page story the Graphic reports that a 38-year-old bicycle repairer, who tried to prevent a suspected armed robber from stealing a tape recorder from somebody's car at Sunyani early this morning, paid dearly for it when the robber stabbed him to death. Under the heading: "Good Samaritan stabbed to death", the Graphic says the repairer, Sammy Amponsah, who was stabbed in the neckl with a sharp knife, died on his way to the hospital and his body has been deposited at the Sunyani Government Hospital mortuary pending police investigations. The robber, Bismarck Kwame Anin, 24, described by the police as an ex-convict is reported to have gone berserk after stabbing Amponsah, brandishing the knife and stabbed another person as a mob chased him. The Graphic says the robber, who was later found to be bleeding from the head, was whisked away by the police to thje Military Clinic to receive medical attention. GRI
