DCE accused of sabotaging development by ‘flirting’ with Chinese galamseyers

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie West in the Ashanti Region, William Bediako Asante has been accused of betraying the development agenda of the area by flirting with illegal Chinese miners with the view of encouraging them to carry on their activities.

A civil society organization in the area, Amansie West Development Forum described his move to allegedly reintroduce Chinese nationals to engage in mining activities in the area despite government’s ban, as gross incompetence.

Leader of the group, Kwabena Amoako said the DCE has derailed efforts by the anti-galamsey taskforce and when his moves are questioned he embarks on tirade of insults at the member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta Constituency, Hon.Joseph Albert Quarm who is a nationally and internationally recognized anti-galamsey

The think-tank AWEDFO therefore is angry at the DCE for what they think is incompetence and sabotaging the fight against illegal mining. The group has advised the DCE to desist from his conniving with illegal miners to pave way for sustainable development in the district.

Members of the AWEDFO think tank, notes that they have been watching the DCE since he assumed office and his conduct is nothing to write home about. He has refused to have meetings with the two MPs in the district. He came at a time when illegal mining was nearly over without galamseyers and their excavators. But six months into office, he has welcomed many galamseyers with uncountable excavators whilst deceiving the Ghanaian media that he is fighting illegal mining.

The AWEDFO members want to put on record that the irresponsible behavior of DCE Asante Bediako could be attributed to the fact that because he is due to leave for the newly created Amansie South district in Manso Adubia Constituency, he wants to create problems and division at Manso Nkwanta Constituency before he leaves.

Because of his dubious character, he thinks Hon.Joseph Albert Quarm who the people trust as honest will not allow him to destroy the environment hence finding ways and means to tarnish his hard won reputation.The behavior of the DCE has necessitated the think-tank to dig into his previous public life which has revealed that, he was a national service coordinator at Offinso where he embezzled huge sums of money. The case in question about his corrupt practices as a national service coordinator is still pending in court.

AWEDFO wish to place on record that Asante Bediako will be leaving for Adubia District in the next two months, that’s why he wants to do active galamsey in the Manso Nkwanta Constituency before he leaves. He is reported to have been doing this dubious means in connection with the Manso Nkwanta Constituency Chairman. The DCE is notoriously noted for raining insults at most of the Chiefs in the Manso Nkwanta constituency which is giving the Constituency bad image during his short stay as district chief executive.

This is cautionary statement by AWEDFO to act on the DCE to put the environment and people of Amansie West first which is the main reason his being in office. Illegal Mining must stop, Our People need development.
