DCE advises youth to remain home and work

Sampa (B/A) Nov. 21, GNA - Madam Elizabeth Obah, Jaman North District Chief Executive, has urged the youth to remain in the country and invest in income-generating ventures.

She recounted the bitter hardships and experiences that some Ghanaian youth were facing in North African countries in their desire to reach Europe for "so-called" greener pastures.

Madam Obah was addressing a section of Ghanaian youth deported from Morocco at Sampa.

Present were heads of some security services in the district. "With determination, resilience, fidelity and sincerity you can succeed in Ghana under God's guidance", she said. Thirteen of the last batch of 60 deportees who hailed from Brong Ahafo hailed from the district.

Miss Obah dismissed speculations that it was the New Patriotic Party Government that called for their repatriation. She said the Government had introduced more programmes this year to help reduce unemployment in the country.

The DCE said the Assembly had formed a district employment tax force that would initiate programmes to create jobs for the youth in the agriculture sector such as grass-cutter rearing, bee keeping, as well as food crop cultivation.

She said the Assembly would train about 500 unemployed youth to acquire various employable skills in the district, adding that some 130 more unemployed would also be trained in auxiliary nursing and education.

She urged the deportees with Senior Secondary School certificates to avail themselves of the opportunity.
