DCE calls for unity and peace in Gomoa District

Apam (C/R), April 1, GNA - The Gomoa District Chief Executive, Madam Joyce Aidoo has called on the people of Gomoa to reconcile with one another, avoid undermining, backbiting, and to live in unity, peace and love to ensure sustainable development in the district.

The DCE was speaking at a forum organized by the Apam Town Council to deliberate on development of Apam Township.

Madam Aidoo therefore, called on chiefs, opinion leaders and the well to do to forget the past and open a new page and help build Apam to befit its status as the district capital.

The DCE said that "nobody would come and development Apam for us, it we who should develop the town".

Mr George Koomson, chairman of the Apam Town Council said the council had embarked on a fund raising activity to generate revenue for development, which had yielded an amount 10 million cedis so far. Mr Koomson commended Dr Theophilous Koomson, who had pledged 50,000.00 cedis monthly from his salary towards the development of the town and called on others to emulate the example.

He said that an Education Endowment fund set up a year ago has also yielded over 10 million cedis and a-seven-member committee was put in place to advise and manage the fund.

An opinion leader of the town, Professor Quartey of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) called for the establishment of Board of Directors to oversee the activities of management of Apam Salt Industry.
