The acting District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya in central region of Ghana, Mr. G.B.L. Siilo, has expressed his appreciation to land owners in and around Awutu-Bawjiase for releasing 4,200 acres of land for the commencement of work on a cassava processing factory in the area.
According to Mr. Siilo, additional 100 acres have also been made available for the establishment of the factory.
Mr. Siilo disclosed these to the Ghana News Agency after a day's inspection tour of the site on Friday. He, however, called for more lands to enable the Government to create a "land bank" to support the project.
On the registration of workers to cultivate the cassava plantation, the acting DCE, who is also the substantive district co-ordinating director for the area, said over 2,000 farmers have so far been registered to start with.
He commended President John Agyekum Kufuor for initiating the project and said that the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly would do all it could to make the project succeed.
Speaking to the GNA later, a group of farmers who took part in last Thursday's inauguration of the President-Initiative projects in Accra, also registered their appreciation to the President and pledged to work hard to ensure that the nation derived good dividends from the project. -
