Mr. Sylvester Daddieh, Jomoro District Chief Executive, has denied government diversion of construction of Tikobo Number One – Ellenda and Ellenda Wharf road to Ehoaka.
The three kilometres Allowuley–Ehoaka–Agyeza bypass is under construction as part of Tikobo Number one – Allabokazo coastal road linking Jomoro to Ellembele District being constructed by the Ghana government under the cocoa road project.
Mr. Daddieh, who made the denial when he addressed the people of Ellenda and Ellenda Wharf at separate forums during a familiarization tour of the district, said the construction of Ehoaka road was in fulfillment of the campaign promise of Mr. Lee Ocran, now Minister for Education to the people in the area.
He said the fact that the coastal road was under construction did not mean that the Tikobo Number One–Ellenda road had been abandoned entirely.
The DCE said similarly Jaway Junction to Newtown road near Half Assini was being constructed under COCOBOD funding even though cocoa is not grown in the area and appealed to the chiefs and people of Ellenda and Ellenda Wharf to exercise restraint as government has not abandoned them to their fate.
Mr. Daddieh said in the short-term the District Assembly would carry out regular routine maintenance on the road to make it motorable for the smooth transportation of goods and services in the area.
The chiefs and people of the two cocoa growing communities said Mr. Lee Ocran in 2008 assured them of the construction of the road as a matter of urgency but nothing has been done about it hence their conviction that the project has been diverted to that of Ehoaka.
