The biggest opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) says President Akufo-Addo is becoming responsive to the calls fueled by the NDC for him to show leadership.

The largest opposition say the suspension of the Upper Denkyira West District Chief Executive, Daniel Apianin, in connection with the gruesome murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama is commendable, but was quick to add that the NDC forced the President to act to reduce the impunity growing under his watch.

The District Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira West, Daniel Appianin, whose enclave, Captain Maxwell Mahama was brutally murdered by a mob attack has been dismissed from his post with immediate effect, Kasapafmonline.com reported Thursday.

He has been told to hand over to the Deputy Central Regional Minister, Thomas Adjei Baffoe.

A letter to that effect was signed Thursday afternoon by the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development upon the instructions of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The government say the DCE is under investigations for some irresponsible utterances following the gruesome murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama.

But a Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition-NDC, Koku Anyidoho told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM that “At least giving him pressure to act he has responded to our calls and he has decided to suspend the DCE. Well we can give him thumbs up for that one. He deserves to be commended. As opposition we can’t always be seen criticizing;it is also in the interest of the state that we give praise and commendations where praise is due at any given point in time. If we had not issued that strong worded statement, telling him enough is enough and that if he can’t govern the state he should step aside for a competent person to take over, do you think he would have acted the way he did? So Yes, we have put pressure on him and he has acted.

He added, as a responsible opposition front, the NDC will still continue to demand good governance from the Akufo-Addo government and deepen the watchdog role as an opposition.

“Well we thank him for acting based on our pressure. And that is the kind of pressure we will apply going forward so that he will do the proper thing. We thank him for listening to the call of a responsible opposition-NDC. It will reduce tension and will give him some modicum of credibility.”

Captain Maxwell Mahama was lynched by residents allegedly on suspicion he was an armed robber. His painful death threw the country into a state of shock with a large section of the public condemning the dastardly act.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has vowed to ensure that the perpetrators are dealt with ruthlessly according to the law.
