DCE urges the youth to show keen interest in agricultural

Ejisu (Ash), Dec. 28, GNA The youth should go into agriculture to reduce the high rate of unemployment, Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, the Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive has said. He said the Government was doing all it could to make agriculture attractive by providing the necessary credit facilities and inputs and it was left for the youth to respond positively to such opportunities.

Mr Afrifa was speaking at the District's Farmers' Day celebration held at Abentinim near Ejisu. Districts in Ashanti Region had to delay their celebration of the Day because the national ceremony was held in the Region. In all, 18 farmers were honoured for their hard work and dedication. Nana Fosu Gyeabour II, Chief of Obenimase near Konongo was adjudged the District Best Farmer. Nana Gyeabour took home a television set, bicycle, cutlasses, full piece of cloth and a certificate.

The DCE appealed to traditional rulers and all custodians of lands in the area to release land to the youth to farm. Mr Afrifa said the District Assembly was ready to support the youth, who have gone into agriculture and appealed to them to form groups and cooperatives to enable them secure credit facilities. Miss Beatrice Aboagye, District Director of Agriculture, commended the farmers for producing enough food to feed the country and called on them to seek advice from the agriculture extension agents on modern farming techniques to enable them to have high yield.
