DFP elects Parliamentary candidates

Tamale, Aug. 23, GNA - Mr. Ibrahim Abdul Rahaman a 32-year old teacher at the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale has been selected to contest the Tamale Central seat on the ticket of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) in the December polls. Mr. Abdul Rahaman was the only candidate as at the close of nomination and had been consequently confirmed and introduced to party members at a short ceremony in Tamale on Friday by Mr. Nuhu Mohammed, Tamale Metropolitan Electoral Officer.

Mr. Abdul Rahaman expressed gratitude to party members for having the confidence in him by selecting him to contest on the party's ticket saying, "I will work hard to ensure victory for the party in the constituency."

He said, economic conditions under the NPP were very harsh and pledged to work hard to bridge the poverty gap in the North when given the nod in December to represent the constituents in Parliament. He claimed that, he was the young "Messiah" of the DFP, anointed to come and redeem the people of the Tamale Central Constituency and appealed to the electorate to denounce both the NPP and the NDC during the December elections to improve their standard of living. He said his main objective would be concentrated on education, mechanized agriculture, health and sanitation, water and, women and children issues, saying, "If you ignore women and children forget of your victory in politics."

Mr. Rahman pledged to institute education fund in the constituency to cater for brilliant but needy students to further their education, adding that, if elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) he would subsidize agriculture produce and help minimise post harvest loses to improve agriculture in the constituency. Mr. Mohammed Iddrisu, Regional Organizer the party said Mr. Abdul Rahaman was a young and a vibrant person who could use his youthful exuberance to help develop the constituency. He claimed that, "The DFP is coming to wrest power form NPP," adding that, NPP and NDC had had their chances and it was the turn of the Democratic Freedom Party to win power and offer Ghanaians good governance. He called on members of the party to remain peace loving and comport themselves in all aspects to allow peace to prevail before, during and after the December elections. In a related development, Mr. Sulemana Zakaria Appiah, 35, had also been confirmed and introduced to party members at Tolon as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Tolon constituency. 23 Aug. 08
