The Executive Director for the Danquah Institute (DI), Nana Attobrah, has said he is shocked at the recent position taken by Rev Prof Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, a member of the committee set by the Electoral Commission (EC) to assess the need for a new electoral register for this year’s elections.
According to Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, the understanding of the committee members as at the time of drafting the report was for the EC to put in place mechanisms for those names which are not supposed to be in the register to be deleted but not to use validation to achieve that.
But in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi, host of TOP FM’s morning show on Tuesday, Nana Attobrah said when the committee finished with its work, it made a strong case against exhibition as a way to clean up the voters register, meaning the only option is a validation exercise.
He added on pages 20 and 21 of its 77-page report, the Committee recommended voter validation as a means of ensuring a clean voters’ register ahead of the November 2016 polls.
“Am surprised at the position taken by him [Prof Emmanuel Kwaku Asante] now,” he told Ekourba.
