Nkwanta (V/R), Nov. 28, GNA- The timely intervention of the Nkwanta District Security Committee (DISEC) and the Police led by Mr Joseph Denteh, Nkwanta District Chief Executive averted a possible attack on the people of Nkwanta by Konkobas from Portripor, also in the Nkwanta District.

The committee visited Portripor last Sunday to calm the nerves of about 300 charged Kokomba youths, who were planning to attack residents of Nkwanta over the death of a Kokomba, James Mpoacha, 32, a businessman.

Mpoacha, a resident of Portripor was reportedly killed by unidentified persons at Nkwanta. Kokombas reportedly gave DISEC and the Police a week to get to the bottom of the matter or they (Kokombas) would go ahead and launch the attack.

Mr Manuri Donkor, Assemblyman for Bonakye Electoral Area told the He said the family of the deceased never made any report to the Police until November this year, explaining that the deceased sometimes travels out and stay for long periods before returning. Meanwhile, the Police on November 26, this year discovered a decomposed male body believed to be that of the deceased, a Kokomba, after close to a week fruitless search. The body was found dumped in a ditch at the outskirt of Nkwanta, about 4 metres from the main road. The body has since been deposited at the Nkwanta District Hospital Mortuary.

David Sekyere Bruku, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Nkwanta District Police Commander said the body would be sent to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.

He told the GNA that a suspect had been picked up and placed in custody to assist in Police investigations. Mr Joseph Denteh said preliminary information gathered and circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased appeared complex and urged the Kokombas to exercise restraint while the Police continue with the investigations.
