Wassa-Akropong (W/R), April 23 -GNA-The District Security Committee (DISEC) of the Wassa Amenfi East District Assembly would hold an emergency meeting on Monday to deliberate on the security situation following the shooting incident that occurred between two armed groups in the night of Monday April 16 at Wassa-Akropong.

An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency that the groups, made up of about 30 men shot from a distance indiscriminately into the air towards the direction of the other group.

The shooting started at about 1900 hours and lasted for more than an hour amid the chanting of war songs, the eyewitness said. The town was thrown into darkness that day as a result of the current load shedding exercise and this created a lot of panic as residents had to run for dear lives.

Chief Inspector Kyei Asante Krobea, Officer-in-Charge of the Wassa-Akropong Police station, who confirmed this, said investigations were on-going to bring the perpetrators to book "even though no complaints had been made to us".

So far no casualty or damage to property had been reported, he added.
