The Chairman for the Referees Appointment Committee, Eddie Doku has stated that the 48 Division One League clubs will be compelled to pay GH¢10,000 as officiating fees if the league does not get a headline sponsor before the start of the 2017/18 season.

According to the Executive Committee member, it is not the responsibility of the Ghana Football Association to pay for the officiating fees of the referees in the coming season.

As earlier indicated by the Chairman of the Division One League Board, Owuahene Acheampong the withdrawal of GN Bank as title sponsors of the league will compel the clubs to pay the officiating fees.

GN Bank pulled out of the sponsorship of the DOL after failing to renew the deal for next season.

The bank signed a three year contract with the Ghana Division One League at the commencement of the 2014/15 campaign and injected a whopping cash of GH¢ 2.1 million.

According to our checks the Division One clubs paid GH 6,000 as officiating fees in the 2016/17 season due to the sponsorship package from GN Bank and StarTimes.

With the withdrawal of GN Bank as title sponsors of the league, the clubs will have to a pay a 500% increase in the officiating fees for the 2017/18 season.
