DVLA Accountant steals 110.2 million cedis

Akyem Swedru, Sept 12, GNA - An Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of 120 million cedis with two sureties to Emmanuel Egyir, a 48-year-old accountant of the Akyem Oda branch of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), for allegedly stealing 110.2 million cedis belonging to the department.

Akyem Swedru, Sept 12, GNA - An Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of 120 million cedis with two sureties to Emmanuel Egyir, a 48-year-old accountant of the Akyem Oda branch of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), for allegedly stealing 110.2 million cedis belonging to the department. Egyir who pleaded not guilty would reappear on September 21. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah about a month ago external auditors from DVLA Accra audited the accused person's records at Akyem Oda and detected that he had misappropriated an amount of 110.2 million cedis during the year ending 31st December 2005. A report was then made to the police and Egyir was arrested.
