The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will from January 2019 administer specialized stickers to luxury vehicles.

This comes after the passage of a law which mandates the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to collect taxes on luxury cars.

Deputy Minister for Information who made the announcement at a press conference in Accra Sunday noted that, the new stickers are of the same shape and size as the normal road worthy stickers but different colours.

“They are printed with additional information and in different colours according to the three different dimensions,” he said.

According to him, vehicles with engine capacity from 2950 to 3549 are expected to pay GH¢1, 000, while those with engine capacity from 3550 to 4049 would pay GH¢1, 500 and those with capacities above 4049 would pay GH¢2000.

He added that "it is an offence for anybody to change or replace the engine in an attempt to outwit DVLA and officials of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)".

Pius Hadzide reiterated that some categories of vehicles are exempt from the levy, they include; a)Tractors; b) Ambulances; c) Commercial vehicles that have the capacity to transport more than ten persons; d) Commercial vehicles for the transport of goods; e) Other exemptions as may be prescribed by the Minister responsible for Finance.
