The Dadekotopon Constituency of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed to elect executive officers for a three-year term.

A congress to elect officers came to an abrupt end when some members challenged moves to include new names on the list of contestants at the last minute.

Proceedings were going on smoothly when the Greater Accra Regional Officers supervising were impressed upon to include the names of new candidates, which were challenged by some of the contestants on the grounds that the period for filing papers to contest the elections had expired.

They also challenged alleged impersonation, which led to heated arguments and confusion.

However, the Ayawaso Central branch has elected officers for a three-year term with Hajia Adiza Umar polling 45 votes to become the Chairperson.

The other contestants for the position, Mr Kweku Adjei had 13 while Mr Seth Osei obtained five votes. Nana Amoah had 44 votes to beat Mr Osbert Kissiedu who polled 13 votes for the position of First Vice Chair Person while Mr Maclean Boateng scored 54 to take the post of Treasurer beating Mr Kweku Howard, who had nine votes. Madam Edith Nartey obtained 41 votes to become the Women's Organiser with Madam Juliana Efua Serwah, the other contestant polling 13.

Other officers who were returned unopposed were Mr Akwetey Taylor, Second Vice Chairperson, Mr Seidu Salifu, Secretary, Mr Mohammed Quaye, Organiser and Alhaji Jafar Neequaye, Youth Organiser.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheikh I C Quaye, who is the MP for the constituency urged members of the party to close their ranks to ensure victory in the 2004 elections.

He said there were bound to be differences in every human endeavour but cautioned them not to allow their individual interest to over ride that of the party.
