Dagbon crisis issue for all - Papa Owusu-Ankomah

Accra, Jan. 21, GNA - Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Minister of The Interior-Designate, on Friday said the Government could not resolve the Dagbon crisis alone without the goodwill of the parties involved. Speaking before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, he said the Parliamentary Committee set up to help resolve the crisis in Dagbon would be meeting very soon to assist in finding lasting solution to the problem.

In answer to a question from John Mahama, NDC-Bole, on the weakness of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), an agency under the Interior Ministry, to handle disasters, Papa Owusu-Ankomah said he would review all the operations of agencies under the Ministry. He said NADMO was not the first vehicle to deal with disaster preparedness rather a collaborative approach was needed involving agencies such as the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service to tackle disasters.

On perceived corruption in the Police Service, Papa Owusu-Ankomah said any Police Officer caught in the act of corruption would not be spared.

He touched on the conditions of service for the Police, saying it was responsible for the low morale of among Police Officers. The Interior Minister-Designate said some equipment including communication gadgets had been brought from South Africa to assists the Police in their work.
