Dagbon feud: Abudus to demonstrate Feb 4

The Abudu Family has served notice it will embark on a “peaceful” demonstration in the Yendi Township on February 4.

The feuding faction in the Dagbon conflict said its action is to compel the John Mahama administration and the Asantehene-led committee of eminent persons to grant them access to the Gbewaa Palace.

It arrived at that decision after a crunch meeting on Tuesday.

The other faction – the Andani Family – is also beating war drums and has given the strongest indication it will also force its way into the Palace for the performance of the funeral rites of their late regent.

There is a heavy military presence at the Gbewaa Palace as the two Gates mass up to renew their age-old vendetta.

Meanwhile, a Conflict resolution and Peace Building expert Emmanuel Bombande has asked the feuding factions in the protracted Dagbon conflict to appreciate the efforts of President John Mahama at ensuring peace among them.

According to him, it is unfair to blame the government and the Committee of Eminent chiefs helping to resolve the crisis for the volatile nature of affairs between them.

“Government has the responsibility to protect citizens; lives, property, security, the wellbeing of everybody. The peace that we must live is the responsibility of us collectively in our communities, in our towns and villages right up to the nation.

“It is for this reason that people must not see government to be the one that must deliver peace but they should see government to be playing its role of ensuring security, and that’s what is happening now in Yendi,” Bombande said.
