"Shooting incident at Adenta...Three in hospital, two cops interdicted". says the Graphic in a lead headline story.

The story says three persons have been admitted to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in critical condition following gunshot wounds they sustained when a policeman shot into their vehicle at the Adenta Police barrier, near Accra.

The three, identified as Isaac Mensah, 34, driver of the vehicle, a tipper truck, Yaw Acquah, 37 and Kwabena Ahinkorah, 24, both mates, were allegedly shot when the driver reportedly refused to stop at the barrier when signalled to do so by the police.

The Graphic quotes Police Inspector David Eklu of the Police Public Relations Directorate as saying that Constable Peter Nsiah of the Airport District Task Force, who was on duty at the barrier, saw a tipper truck loaded with logs heading towards the barrier from Accra.

According to Inspector Eklu, the truck driver nearly hit Constable Nsiah with the vehicle when he failed to stop after being signalled to do so, and the constable, apparently infuriated, allegedly gave a warning shot which hit the driver and his two mates.

Inspector Eklu told the Graphic that one other person on the truck whose name was given as Asante, escaped unhurt while the three victims were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital from where they were referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Graphic says Inspector E.K.Asamoah who was in charge of operations at the barrier at the time of the incident and Constable Nsiah, have been interdicted by the Police Administration pending investigations into the matter. GRi
