Daily Guide Issues Press Statement On Alleged Sodomy Reports

Sun, 7 Aug 2011 Source: --

STATEMENT

Western Publications Limited, publishers

of DAILY GUIDE, NEWS-ONE, YOUNG BLAZERS and BUSINESS GUIDE has taken notice of

media reports linking the company and its Chairman, Freddie Blay, to an alleged

sodomy act.

We wish to state publicly that no staff

member of Western Publications has being involved in any act of sodomy and

neither the company nor any of its employees is under any police investigation

for sodomy or any sex related offence.

According to the unsubstantiated and

largely mischievous media reports carried by The Informer, The Herald and Ghanaian

Lens news papers, the alleged crime was reportedly

committed by one ‘Ohene’. The three papers alleged further that the ‘Ohene’ in

question is a nephew of Freddie Blay.

For the records, Freddie Blay has no

nephew or any extended relation by name Ohene. He also has no nephew in the

employ of Western Publications.

We are aware that the Domestic Violence

and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service is investigating

a case of sodomy allegedly committed by one Ohene.

Initial reports say the act may have been

committed either at the home of the victim or at a private property belonging

to our company and that the suspect is on the run.

As the case is currently under police

investigations we consider it premature to go into further details especially

when the facts of the matter are yet to be fully ascertained.

As a company, we distance ourselves from

the entire episode and state for the records that we are ever ready to

cooperate with the Police in any way they deem lawful as far as investigating

the alleged crime is concerned.

We consider defilement and more so of a

minor as a serious criminal act and would not do anything to shield crime

suspects under police investigation.

We urge the three media houses

serializing the story to do the appropriate and professional thing by stating

the facts of the case in their reportage and stop dragging Western Publications

and the person of Freddie Blay

into a story they are in no way connected. The one sided version of misleading

reports carried by the three papers smack of lazy journalism and pure

malice.
