In collaboration with the Ghanaian community and Associations in the Dallas/FortWorth Metropolitan Area of Texas, the Otumfuo Education Fund (Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter) has donated an amount of five thousand US Dollars ($5000) to the Otumfuo Fund at a ceremony recently held in Accra. The donation was realized at a fundraising event organized by the community and Associations in Dallas, Texas in October 2001. The sponsoring Associations included the Asanteman Association of Texas (D/FW), Okuapeman, Mboa Kuw, Kwahuman, Ewe Association, Ga Adangbe, and the Professional Drivers Association of DFW. Other church groups that participated in the event included the Grace Divine Church and the International Charismatic Church,
Making the donation on behalf of the sponsoring organizations to the Executive Committee of the Fund, Mr. Rex Poku, the Public Relations Officer for the Asanteman Association of Texas informed the Committee that Ghanaian community and the Associations in the Dallas Metro Area have committed to organize annual fundraising events, proceeds of which will benefit the Fund. Mr. Poku, who is also the Public Relations Officer for the North American Chapter of the Fund, and the Assistant Executive Secretary of the Asanteman Council of North America, USA/Canada (ACONA), said he is currently working to engage these groups to work together, and to emulate the Dallas/Forth Worth example.
He reiterated his group’s support for the noble objectives being propagated by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, founder of the Fund. He noted that the development of human, physical and material resources for the improvement of education in Asanteman and Ghana is of paramount importance, and deserves the support of all residents of the North American sub-region, regardless of their ethnic affiliations.
