Damaged Nangodi-Pelingu road hampers economic activities

The Concerned Citizens of Nangodi and Yakoti in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region have appealed to the Government to urgently repair the damaged Nangodi-Pelingu Road.

Addressing a media conference at Yakoti in the District, the spokesperson for the group, Mr Michael Zuri, stated that the road, which linked the communities to health facilities, the Pelingu Central Market and the Kongo Senior High School had become completely unmotorable.

According to the group, the situation was affecting economic activities such as the transportation of goods and services by traders and farmers.

Women in labour, they said, also suffered when being transported to the health facilities.

They explained: “The entire road, which is about 0.7km, is in a very deplorable state but the two major portions of the damaged road at Soliga and the completely broken Yakote bridge need urgent attention. These portions of the road have caused many accidents and also hinder access to education and brings untold hardships to farmers”.

The former Presiding Member of the Nabdam District Assembly, Mr Wongnab Francis Mbabire, said the road had been in that deplorable state for the past nine years and several appeals by the communities and the Assembly to get the necessary authorities to fix the problem had proved futile.

Whilst commending the Government for upgrading the area to a new District, the group appealed to the Regional Minister, Mr Zuugah Tiigah, to use his good office to ensure that the road was repaired to help avert further problems.
