Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has waded into the controversy surrounding the demotion of Dan Botwe, Member of Parliament for Okere constituency in the Eastern Region, as the campaign chairman for Dr Bawumia's campaign team.
The NDC chairman believes that despite the former Local Government Minister's impeccable reputation, he has been undermined by members of his own party, as reported by myjoyonline.com.
Speaking to supporters in Nsutam in the Okere constituency, Asiedu Nketiah expressed his surprise that the MP has been marginalised within his party despite his credibility.
The report also indicated that Asiedu Nketiah claimed the plot to set the MP up for failure began when he was appointed as Local Government Minister and was allegedly denied the necessary resources to effectively carry out his ministerial duties.
The NDC chairman stated, "I know Dan Botwe; he's a very good man. He is someone who excels in any responsibility given to him, but, unfortunately, he has been set up to fail by some elements within the party who believe his presence could impact their political gains since he was appointed as the campaign chairman. They started undermining him and seizing his authority as the campaign head right after his appointment. When was the last time you heard him speak?"
"They did the same thing to him at the Local Government Ministry when the majority of the ministry's funds were allocated to the sanitation ministry under Cecilia Dapaah, who reportedly kept it under her bed so he couldn't effectively run the ministry as I believe he would have," he alleged.
A few weeks ago, media reports indicated that a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party had resigned as the Chairman of the party's flagbearer's team due to being sidelined in the campaign's execution.
Asiedu Nketiah inferred from this that some members want Dan Botwe to fail so that if the NPP loses power in the upcoming elections, they can say, "We told you he would fail."
