Tema, Sept. 25, GNA - A Danish Vessel, MV Vaeddren, is to berth at the Tema Port on Tuesday October 3, on a four-day visit. Mr Flemming Bjork Pedersen, Danish Ambassador, who announced this on Monday said the 99 crew on board, would be made up of 50 members from the Danish Navy, with the rest being researchers and journalists, among others.
Mr Pedersen made this disclosure when he paid a courtesy call on members of the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) at Tema New Town. He said the visit of the crew, to conduct research into the country's territorial waters, would help cement the existing bond of relationship between his country and Ghana.
The Ambassador further stated that the visit would also help strengthen the good research collaboration between the two countries. Mr Pedersen said from Tema, the vessel would go to the South African city of Cape Town, and continue to Australia. He said it would then sail to the Americas before finally going back to Europe.
The Ambassador assured member of the TTC that he would do his very best to help the Council to meet some of its challenges. Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse, on behalf of members of the Council, thanked Mr Pedersen for the visit. Earlier in the day, the Council presented the Tema Education Foundation Scholarship Awards to five deserving students within the municipality, to assist them to further their education at the tertiary level.
Since its institution on November 15, 2002, a total of 38 students had benefited from the scheme. Six other students had benefited from the scheme since the beginning of the year, bringing the number of beneficiaries so far to 11 this year.
