Accra, March 6, GNA - The Dansoman Beach at Gbegbese in Accra is full of filth, making it unattractive to visitors.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency on Sunday afternoon, revealed a dirty surroundings full of peels of fruits and plastic waste. The filthy scene according to most visitors, particularly, those for the first time said the filth had put them and may not visit the place again but rather go to other beaches with clean surroundings. However, Mr Adjei Mensah, one of those who managed the beach told He said appeals to the Assemblyman for the provision of litterbins had not yielded any result.
Mr Mensah who is also a fisherman said a toll ranging from a thousand to 2,000 cedis was collected during public holidays to motivate the cleaners.
He said the amount collected was not enough to buy litterbins and called for assistance to ensure that the beach was kept clean to attract more visitors.
Most of the visitors GNA spoke to said, they were there to mark the Independence Day celebration.
Mr Peter Twum, alias "Touch" who was with his six-year-old daughter said they were there to thank God for seeing Ghana through 48 years of Independence.
Asked why he did not go to Church or the Mosque to do that, he said; "God is everywhere so I can thank Him anywhere". Akua Hagan in the company of her two siblings said she was there to mark Ghana's birthday.
Prince Quaye said he was there to "cool off as the weather is very hot these days".
