For some time now, the stretch of road from the CP Junction to the Achimota Hospital has been shrouded in darkness, raising concerns among commuters.
The lack of proper street lighting has made the area a dangerous place for drivers and passengers alike and has led to a surge in criminal activities, particularly robberies, during the evening hours.
Reports indicate that thieves are exploiting the poorly lit road to target vehicles stuck in traffic.
In several instances, robbers have brazenly snatched phones and other valuables from drivers and passengers through open car windows, during rush hours.
Once the theft is complete, the criminals quickly flee into the dense Achimota Forest, which lies adjacent to the road, making it difficult for anyone to pursue or apprehend them, residents have said.
The forest, located opposite the MultiChoice Ghana office, provides an ideal hiding spot for these robbers, allowing them to evade capture.
The situation has left many road users anxious, especially at night, as the risk of being robbed looms large.
As it stands, the combination of darkness and rising crime has made the Achimota Forest area a hotspot for fear and concern among those who traverse it, particularly at night.
Here is a video captured by GhanaWeb at around 1 AM on Wednesday, July 10 2024, on the road, showing the depth of darkness that covers the road:
