The Ningo Prampram District Assembly has inaugurated a Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound for the people of Dawa and its environs in the Greater Accra Region.
The facility, which cost GHC 68,800 was financed from the Internally Generated Fund of the Assembly and the District Development Fund.
Alhaji Sa-Rhack Nartey, the Ningo Prampram District Chief Executive, said the provision of the CHPS compound was to help the people access health services at their doorstep.
He said the facility would alleviate the plight of the sick, who hitherto had to travel long distances to Prampram, Battor or the Tema General Hospital to seek medical attention.
Alhaji Nartey said the gesture was to reaffirm government’s commitment to making quality healthcare delivery accessible to the citizenry, as part of its social responsibility, adding that, the construction of similar facilities were ongoing at Mobole, Ayetepah and Kofikorpe.
The DCE implored the beneficiary communities to take sanitation and environmental issues seriously to avoid outbreak of diseases.
Madam Gifty Ofori Ansah, the District Health Director, said the CHPS compound would cover about 20 per cent of antenatal cases in the district and appealed to the Assembly to consider upgrading one of such facilities to attend to trauma cases, as the Tema-Aflao road has been recording accidents.
