Yaa Asantewaa II, Ejisuhemaa at the funeral
The funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, entered the second day on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, drawing thousands of mourners to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Dignitaries, traditional leaders, and ordinary citizens from across the country gathered to pay their last respects to the revered queen mother, whose passing has left a deep void in the Ashanti Kingdom.
Cultural displays, drumming, and the pouring of libation continued as chiefs and queen mothers took turns to perform customary rites in her honour. Many mourners described her as a unifying figure who worked tirelessly to uphold Ashanti traditions and values.
Security has been heightened around the palace as the influx of visitors continues to grow, with more high-profile delegations expected in the coming days.
The funeral is scheduled to last for several days, with the final rites expected to attract even larger crowds.
