Commercial drivers at the Kumasi Race Course market are accusing authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly(KMA), of collapsing their business by failing to relocate traders to the market.
According to the drivers, the KMA promised to relocate all traders occupying unapproved pavements to the Racecourse area which will in effect help in the growth of transport business there.
They however are disappointed months after the assurance, no single trader has been relocated making them redundant.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly on November 6, 2017 embarked on a demolition exercise with the aim of ejecting traders from the Central Business District of Adum, Dr Mensah, Pampaso and adjourning areas selling on unauthorised pavements to move to the racecourse market.
Metropolitan Chief Executive, Eric Osei Assibey Antwi during the exercise instructed all traders and drivers operating in illegally to move to the Racecourse Market to make the exercise successful.
But Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo who has been following the development reports the traders have failed to adhere to the KMA’s directives and are still trading at various places in the city.
The drivers believe the exercise by the city authorities is a failure and a waste of resources since it has failed to yield the desired impact.
”We are urging the KMA mayor to force all selling at unauthorised places to come and join us here at racecourse else we will also go back to our usual places. Our businesses are collapsing since we record low sales here because our colleagues are still selling at the various roadside so why can’t them KMA force them to join us here” they said.
