Friends of National Unity, a pressure group is calling on the Ghana Police service to work extra harder to halt the recent ‘kick off’ ongoing in the country.
FoNU says “for the past few weeks ,the health of this country has been punctuated with pockets of political violence all in the name of political power and we think that,the silence of the police is shocking and deafening ,and it is about time the police act swiftly to restore confidence in the nation as far as election 2016 is concern”.
The group said they are worried over such acts which is becoming rampant for the past few weeks and cited the transfer of vote exercise which the Electoral Commissioner undertook an incident where such an act took place.
“This irresponsible conduct which is always orchestrated by hooligans purported to be members of political parties should not be allowed to fester ,just because the perpetrators of this crime belong to either party A or B.This act became rampant for the past few weeks due to the transfer of vote exercise which the Electoral Commissioner undertook”
They added that” It is shocking to note that,these hooligans who commit crimes in the name of political parties are always left off the hook and this always fortified the perpetrators of these crimes to always have the penchant to repeat such act with glee and also emboldened like minded individuals who contemplate doing same to undertake such venture with happiness ,after all such individuals are always convinced that,even when they are arrested,they will definitely be released by the help of their political god fathers”.

“GHANA POLICE SERVICE MUST WAKE UP FROM THEIR SLUMBER AND WORK HARD TO HALT THE “VIOLENT KICK OFF” CURRENTLY ONGOING IN THE COUNTRY”

We the above mentioned group are worried about the violent “kick off”currently ongoing in the country and the earlier the police work hard to halt this menace the better for all of us as Ghanaians .
For the past few weeks ,the health of this country has been punctuated with pockets of political violence all in the name of political power and we think that,the silence of the police is shocking and deafening ,and it is about time the police act swiftly to restore confidence in the nation as far as election 2016 is concern.
This irresponsible conduct which is always orchestrated by hooligans purported to be members of political parties should not be allowed to fester ,just because the perpetrators of this crime belong to either party A or B.This act became rampant for the past few weeks due to the transfer of vote exercise which the Electoral Commissioner undertook.
Places that have witnessed these unfortunate attacks are as follows.
1:Kukuom in the Asunafo south district ,of the Brong Ahafo Region
2:Suhum, in the Eastern Region
3:Central Gonja, in the northern Region
4;Odododiodio,in the Greater Accra Region
5:Ajumako Eyaan ,in the central region
And the list is endless.
We the Friends of National Unity would like to ask the police administration to tell us of what has become of all these unfortunate attacks that have characterized this nation for the past few weeks?
We also want to put on record that,the habit of politicizing crime in this country is an unfortunate development which should not be entertained as a nation.This attitude of given a crime a political coloration is a dangerous phenomena which needs to be discouraged by all well meaning Ghanaians including the police services who is charged with the responsibility of maintaining law and order in this country.
It is shocking to note that,these hooligans who commit crimes in the name of political parties are always left off the hook and this always fortified the perpetrators of these crimes to always have the penchant to repeat such act with glee and also emboldened like minded individuals who contemplate doing same to undertake such venture with happiness ,after all such individuals are always convinced that,even when they are arrested,they will definitely be released by the help of their political god fathers.
We are also saddened by the hypocritical behavior of some politicians who openly preaches peace but practices violence in secrecy ,because this is a canker that has been ongoing in our political landscape and it is the duty of police service to always live above partisan considerations and do their job as enshrined in the constitution by making sure that,such politicians are always promptly dealt with.
Recently,the former National security chief,Brigadier Nunoo Menash could not hide his frustration when he came out to say that,our security agencies are polarized and this comment of his feeds into the perception that, our security agencies and for that matter, the Ghana police service is being compromised and this is an unhealthy development as far as our flagging democracy is concern ,and no wonder the Ghana police service seems to be helpless in bringing perpetrators of these political crimes to book.
Friends of National unity will like to state that ,as a peace loving group , we have been keenly observing the development in the country in relation to the maintenance of peace and we dare say that,the Ghana police service is not doing enough to maintain the peace in the country considering the fact that, this year,s elections is very crucial and we cannot take the peace of this country for granted.
There is an a dage which says that,little drops of water makes a mighty ocean ,in this regard the police should not take these pockets of violence that has engulfed the country for the past few weeks for granted ,because this can culminate into a full scale war considering the fact that,we have a general elections at our hand.
We also want to urge the police to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently without been bias and they should also decouple themselves from partisan politics in discharging their constitutional mandated responsibility because we can,t forgive them as nation when this country is plunge into an abyss.
We wish to be unequivocal on our call that,those irresponsible thugs who have committed various act of crimes by visiting mayhem on fellow Ghanaians all in the name of politics should be brought to book immediately to serve as deterrent to like minded individuals.
What happened at Ajumako Eyaan in the central Region yesterday when a Ghanaians had to lose his eye, just because of political differences is quiet unacceptable and must be condmned by all right thinking Ghanaians, and the police must also expedite action to bring the perpetrators of such heinous crime to book as early as possible.They should not be room for such dastardly acts in this twenty first century.
We also want to remind the Ghana police service that,when unscrupulous individuals see the police service as anemic to an extend that,they feel the police cannot longer guarantee their safety,that is where they usually resort to this unorthodox method of self defense which always has dire consequences .
We are by this RELEASE calling on the Ghana police service to wake up from their slumber and discharge their mandate prescribed by the constitution to halt the violent” Kick Off” currently ongoing in the country in order to avoid bloodshed in the round up to the 2016 general elections slated for 7th December ,because to for warn is to for arm;
We sincerely hope that,the police will take this call in good faith and work assiduously to preserve the peace of this country because, the enough of the police is actually not enough.
