The death of a thirty-nine-year-old Chinese national has caused some sort of fear and insecurity among residents of Gyapa near Wassa Akropong in the Western Region.
Unconfirmed report has it that the Chinese, Mo Sheng Bao, might have committed suicide since he was found dead on his own bed at his residence at Gyapa with a pump action gun in his hands.
Some residents also believe the deceased might have been killed elsewhere and later connived with some of his co-residents to place his dead body on his own bed a day before he was found dead.
There are seven other Chinese nationals who lived in the same house with the deceased at Gyapa.
However, police at Wassa Akropong had earlier on arrested all the seven Chinese as suspects but later granted them bail to assist in investigating the matter.
Remains of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital pending autopsy.
Fear & Panic
A spokesperson for the Ghanaian residents living close to the residence of the Chinese, Kwabena Kodua in interview said none of residents living around the area heard any gunshot a day before Bao was reported dead on his own bed.
He said whether the deceased was killed indoors or outdoors, residents in the area were imbued with fear and panic of the death incident.
He however, called on the police to quicken efforts in investigating the matter to bring the assassins to justice.
Both Chinese business friends to the deceased, Tan Guojun and Mo Hong Xin expressed worry about the demise of Bao but recalled that he (Bao) ever engaged in some disagreement with a shareholder of his mining business to sell his mine site for $100, 000 and said they were ready to assist the police in investigations.
Police report
Wassa Akropong Police Station Officer, Chief Inspector, F.P. Coffie said on December 1, 2016 police received reports of the death at around 3.00am and proceeded to the scene.
He said upon reaching the scene (residential room of the deceased), a pump action gun was in the hands of the deceased who was found dead on his own bed.
He said quickly, all the seven other Chinese who slept in different rooms but the same house were arrested as suspects but were later released on bail, assisting in investigating the death incident while the remains of the dead were deposited at the morgue of the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital.
He said police were waiting for the autopsy report from to continue with investigations to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.
