Unknown persons have issued threats to kill the Bawku Divisional Police Commander Mr Kwaku Buadu Prepprah for allegedly conspiring with some groups in the Bawku Municipality to deny them their social rights.
The threats came through phone calls, anonymous letters, and post bills pasted in parts of the municipality, stating that Mr Prepprah would “soon see his death for being so selfish”.
The Divisional Crime officer Deputy, Superintendent of Police (DSP) Adamu Seidu, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday at Bawku.
DSP Seidu said that the threats and accusations were unfortunate and that Mr Prepprah had been a selfless and devoted servant to the people of Bawku and those issuing the threats seemed to take advantage of his leniency to be his weakness.
DSP Seidu said the police administration would continue to operate transparently as far as maintaining peace and order in the Bawku Municipality and its environs were concerned and would not countenance indiscipline from any individual or group in the area.
He cautioned those threatening the lives of people in the Municipality, especially the Divisional Police Commander, to desist from the act, and rather channel their grievances through the appropriate quarters for redress because violence was a tool for distraction.
The Crime Officer assured all ethnic groups in the Municipality of police impartiality and warned that if any attempt was made on the live of any security personnel, the consequences would not be far fetched.
DSP Siedu said there was relative calm in Bawku and the security agencies had intensified police and military patrols to ensure peace for socio-economic development.
