Debts incurred under NDC government to be thoroughly audited - Senior Minister

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo says government will subject all national debts incurred by the previous National Democratic Congress, (NDC) government under the administration of former president John Dramani Mahama to thorough audit.

These will include debts incurred at the various ministries, department and agencies, and Metropolitan, Municipal district assemblies.

According to Mr. Osafo Maafo the debts are so astronomical that urgent steps need to be taken by government to investigate to ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of such debts.

The Senior Minister gave the hint when addressed delegates at the 25th Annual Ashanti Regional Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party, NPP in Kumasi today.

The annual conference, under the theme “Embracing the Challenges of Today for A Better Tomorrow”, was in line with the party’s constitution.

Article Seven Clause 13 of the NPP constitution states that, in every year, at least four weeks prior to the national delegates conference, there shall be a regional delegates conference to take stock of the party’s achievements for the past year and to deliberate on what it will do in the coming year for the progress and development of the party.

The key message that run through addresses of speaker after speaker invited to address the delegates was on the need for the rank and file of the party to adhere to the party’s disciplinary code and grievance procedures that are stated in the party’s constitution.

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo who represented the President urged all constituency executives to build strong inter-relationship among the government, parliament, party, especially at the grassroots. He warned that any attempt to distance themselves from the grassroots will be the beginning of the woes of the party.

Mr. Osafo Maafo who spoke in Twi. used the forum to briefed delegates on major decisions taken by cabinet to better the lot of the citizenry.

He hinted that government will subject all national debts incurred by the previous NDC government under the administration of former president John Dramani Mahama to thorough audit.

In an address read for him, the Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu reminded members of the NPP that it is the determination of the administration of President Akufo-Addo to secure for the present generation of Ghanaians and posterity, the blessings of liberty, equality of opportunity and prosperity.

These can only be achieved, if they work together and stay united, devoid of bickering and back-biting.

The Acting National Chairman of the Party, Freddy Blay said there is no substitute for unity, if the NPP wants to retain power after the 2020 general elections.

The Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, urged members of the party to jealously protect the party’s victory in the 2016 general elections.

All efforts by the rank and file of the party should therefore be geared in this direction.
