Students in the Denkyembuor District who need financial support to complete their education had been asked to submit applications to the scholarship secretariat through the District Chief Executive of the Assembly.
The Denkyembour District Chief Executive, Mr Seth Birikorang Ofosu said the scholarship was opened to all students in tertiary institutions, nursing training colleges, college of education and universities, both private and government institutions.
Addressing the first ordinary general assembly meeting of the District Assembly, Mr Ofosu explained that the applicant needed to apply to the Chief Executive Officer of the Scholarship Secretariat through the District Chief Executive, Denkyembour District Assembly.
He asked the applicants to attach the following documents; admission letter, school identification card, current bill and current semester/term result.
Application would be received until middle of May this year.
Mr Ofosu said since social development was important to government for proper supply of goods and services to its citizens, 20 persons with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 40 years had been registered, grouped and trained in employable skills such as liquid soap and bar soap production in line with the disable fund disbursement guidelines.
On the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, he said during the first quarter of the year, a total of 226 beneficiaries in seven communities received their cash transfers.
On health, Mr Ofosu said with the onset of rainy season, there was the need to ensure environmental cleanliness and urged the assembly members to raise awareness of their communities of diseases such as diarrhea and cholera.
He said the government had supplied 625 bags of rice seedlings at a subsidized price to rice farmers in the district and maize seeds also made available at various retail shops for sale at a subsidized price.
The DCE said in collaboration with the Minerals Commission, 200,000 oil palm seedlings would be supplied to farmers at Akwatia and its environs and that, an amount of GH¢150.00 would be given per acre for the maintenance of the farms for a year.
Mr. Ofosu said the 30,000 oil palm seedlings nursed by the assembly itself would be distributed the month of May.
He said the district had received 12 motorbikes for extension officers to facilitate their work in the district.
The DCE said the assembly through the entity tender committee had approved the award of contract for the completion of the ICT centre at Wenchi through the MP’s Common Funds and the District Assembly Common Fund, construction of staff summer hut at Akwatia education office and construction of culverts at Charleskrom, Bredu and Takrowase.
He said the Assembly had commissioned the following projects, construction of four-unit classroom block at Kusi Methodist School, Chip compound at Akwatia Kwame Kuma and market stalls at Wenchi.
