A former Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency, Kojo Adu-Asare, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to reject a request by the Minority in Parliament for a meeting over what they describe as ‘issues of great public concern.’

The Minority is expected to present a formal petition at the Jubilee House on Thursday, July 24, 2025, requesting an audience with the President to discuss pressing national matters.

In an earlier letter, the caucus emphasised the urgency of the concerns, which they said require ‘fair-minded leadership and definitive action.’

Adu-Asare criticised the move, insisting that Parliament remains the appropriate forum for the Minority to channel their grievances.

According to him, their continuous boycott of parliamentary sittings undermines their constitutional mandate and weakens the very platform meant for dialogue and accountability.

“How many times did Akufo-Addo meet with the Minority in his eight years? How many times did President Kufuor meet the Minority? The request should be declined because they are supposed to speak in Parliament, and if they keep boycotting sittings, what are they going to tell the President when they can’t use the forum they have? he asked in a report by adomonline.com on July 24, 2025.

Adu-Asare also questioned the legitimacy of the Minority’s petition, stating that they were already provided with a constitutional platform through which to engage in national discourse.

“These guys have a mandate given to them by the Constitution of Ghana. So, who has given them the mandate to seek an audience with the President? Over what? They have already been given a forum for dialogue and debate, but they use that to vilify and throw shades, and now they are seeking an alternative forum. Is that Parliament?” he said.
