There is the need to decouple Ghana’s security arrangement from politics in order to ensure effective security of the country, Brigadier Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces has said.
He noted that the security agencies, especially the police, are unable to effectively deal with crimes involving politicians out of fear of victimisation.
This, he said, has resulted in impunity.
Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM hosted by Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on Friday, 21 June 2019, Brigadier Nunoo-Mensah said the trend where the top hierarchy of Ghana’s security agencies are changed with every change in government is a threat to the nation.
This means, he said, the new officers appointed will work on the orders of the party in power, a situation that weakens security in the country.
“Don’t change security capos because of politics,” he said.
“We have to delink politics from security so that we will be able to deal with crimes effectively. Changing officers because of politics has not helped us in any way,” he added.
