Defence Minister orders 'C and G Aleska mines' to stop mining

Following Abusua 96.5 FM News report, the Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has ordered Canadian Mining Company C&G Aleska to as a matter of urgency stay away from the Wassa Juabo forest in the Western Region

It will be recalled that Abusua FM News over the weekend reported that the Canadian Mining Company is operating in the reserve Forest despite Tarkwa High Court injunction order stopping it from mining in the forest.

Defence minter Dominic Nitiwul upon hearing the report quickly rushed to the forest to order the aforementioned company from mining in the forest.

On November 16, 2016, the Tarkwa High Court ordered the Company to stay away from the Wassa Juabo Forest since their operations was illegal.

A letter intercepted by Abusuafmonline.com revealed that on November 29, 2016, the Minerals Commission urged C&G Aleska Mining Company to cease forthwith all forms of operations since its prospecting license did not permit them to engage in extraction (mining) on the concession.

Spokesperson for Wassa Youth Association and the Agona Family in Wassa Juabo Evans Kwafo on Monday confirmed to Abusua fm’s Nana Ama Annor that the Canadian Mining Company C&G Aleska has ceased its operation after the Defence minter’s visit to the site.

According to him, soldiers have been deployed to the forest to ensure mining activites are halted with immediate effect.

Furious Evans Kwafo urged government to force the company to pay damages to the Agona Family in Wassa Juabo and the entire community as well for illegally destroying their land and water bodies.

He says ”We thank President Akuffo Addo for addressing our concern without delay. The Canadian Mining Company C&G Aleska is not mining in the forest again after the Defence Minister visit”.

Kwafo however appealed to President Akufo- Addo and his government put drastic measures in place to ensure the company does not resume its operation in the forest.

”We strongly believe that the Canadian Mining Company C&G Aleska will go back to the site if government refuses to put measures in place to stop the company from mining permanently. The C&G Aleska miner must face the law for doing galamsey despite the Tarkwa High Court injunction order”.

Mr Kwafo however appealed to the Chief Justice to implement the Tarkwa High Court order and bring the final ruling of the court case between the Agona family and the Canadian Mining Company C&G Aleska.
