Defence deal: We won’t be tired with 'demo' – Asiedu Nketiah to Akufo-Addo

The General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah says organizers of anti-Ghana, US Defense Cooperation Agreement will continue with their nationwide protest until government rescinds its decision.

Addressing a mammoth crowd at the Tamale Jubilee park to climax the 2nd league of the Ghana First demonstration, the General Scribe of the NDC insisted that Ghana’s sovereignty cannot be mortgaged to the US merely to deepen bilateral relations between the two States.

“Ghana is for Ghanaians. The citizens of Ghana will continue defending the interest of Ghana, no matter what it takes; the people’s interest shall not be dampen by any arm-twisting parties or by the anger of any President. So we want Nana Addo to take the message from Tamale clear,…”

Hundreds of people, largely opposition NDC members in Tamale, the Northern Regional Capital, on Saturday marched in protest of the expansion of the defense cooperation deal between Ghana and the United States of America.

Protesters flooded the city’s business district, held placards with red and black attire, some wildly riding motorbikes, and beating drums, slamming the deal with the US with unrestrained rhetoric directed against the President, the Defense Minister and the ruling party.

The street protest dubbed #PutGhanaFirst saw dozens of opposition NDC figures including the General Secretary, Aseidu Nketiah, Mr. Hudu Yahaya, an elder of the party among other key officials.
