Kumasi, May 9, GNA - Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Minister of the Interior, has stated that defence of the Constitution should not be perceived as the sole preserve of only some specific groups of people, but rather a collective responsibility of all Ghanaians.
He said the Constitution, being the fundamental law of the land was embodied with provisions that protect all citizens of Ghana without any discrimination and for that matter its protection and preservation had become a collective duty of all.
Mr Owusu-Agyemang was swearing-in of a seven-member executive of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi on Saturday.
It has Mr Owusu Adjabeng as chairman.
The ceremony was held under the theme: "Positive Change, What Has Been Realised And The Way forward" and was designed to serve as a platform for the party's leadership to interact with the students and enlighten them more on the vision of the NPP.
The Interior Minister urged civil organisations and students to resolve to resist any attempts by any group of persons who attempted to overthrow the constitution.
He, however, gave the assurance that the government had already instituted viable measures to curb any insurrection in the country. Touching on the 300 million-dollar loan transaction between the government and the Chinese New Techniques Group Holding Limited, Nana Akomea, Minister of Information said thorough investigation had been done on the viability and background of the company.
"We are satisfied and believe that the company is a genuine one", Nana Akomea added.
He emphasised that the loan facility was not meant for any other purpose but for the upgrading of infrastructure and the enhancement of private sector development.
Dr Richard Anane, Minister of Roads and Transport, expressed the hope that with the major works being carried out to rehabilitate the roads and drainage systems, flooding and undue traffic jams would soon become things of the past.
