President of the Republic of Ghana and Co-Chair of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocates, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has bemoaned the deficit in human resource development in the sub-region.

Addressing a high level African Round Table Discussion on the theme, ‘’Mobilizing Support and Accelerating, Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals’’, the Co-Chair said The successful implementation of the SDGs will end poverty, protect the planet and secure prosperity. he noted.

He added, there are reasons that make him optimistic about the future and the most important one for him is that ‘’increasingly, Agenda 2030 is no longer seen as some else’s agenda. Extraordinary efforts and actions required to achieve the SDGs, are beginning to coxless the partnership that we are building across national governments, civil society and the private sector.’’

According to him, as the Co-Chair, he has taken a strategic decision to prioritize championing accelerated implementation of the goals in Africa.’’

‘’I am compelled to do this because sadly, the deficit in human development, is highest in our continent. If we are to succeed in our noble ambition to transform our continent and poor masses of our people out of poverty, and deprivation, Africa must pursue implementation of the SDGs with a strong sense of urgency and unparalleled commitment to act now,’’ he added.
