Former National Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Professor Edmund N. Delle, has appealed to all splinter groups in the CPP to bury their differences and come together as one family so as to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.
According to the veteran politician, who is staging a come-back for the national chairman of the CPP, it is only through a united Nkrumaist front that “we can bring back the one-time political glory the party used to enjoy during its formative years.”
Whilst he claimed 2016 is the time for the CPP to bounce back into the country’s political limelight after about four decades in political oblivion, he noted that that would also depend on how the party would bring together all the aggrieved Nkrumaists to fight for a common course.
“We can’t continue to fight amongst ourselves and think that power will come to us so easily,” he said.
Speaking to Today in an interview yesterday via telephone, Prof. Delle, who is a dermatologist, could not understand why the party [the CPP] which gave birth to Ghana’s independence would be wandering in political wilderness whiles her citizens continue to wallow in abject poverty, coupled with misery, diseases, unemployment, hunger and among other things.
In his opinion, Ghanaians would not forgive the CPP, if it failed to deliver them from the shackles and maladministration of the Mahama-led government.
“Ghanaians have tried and tested both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and I can tell you my son, (referring to this reporter) that they are now tired of them and therefore want to see the CPP back in power to rescue them,” he stated.
At the current economic situation the country finds itself, Prof. Delle contended that only a party like the CPP would turn things around.
He further intimated that the achievements of the CPP were there for everybody to see and that it would be easier for Ghanaians to bring the party to power in 2016.
The CPP stalwart also revealed that all the places he had been to, all that the people told him was to see the Nkrumaists come together as one, so that they could give them power in 2016.
The medical doctor-turned-politician blamed both NDC and NPP for the country’s numerous economic woes, asserting that their mismanagement over the years has resulted in the mess the country presently finds itself.
To this end, Prof. Delle called on all CPP members who are with either the NPP or the NDC to come back to their mother party.
“You (CPP members) don’t belong to any of these parties- NPP or NDC- and I think it is high time you all came home to support your party, the CPP to win power for Ghana,” he said.
Though he failed to mention names, he claimed most of the big names in both the NPP and NDC were from the CPP, a situation he said, accounted for the disintegration of the Nkrumaist family.
The CPP man was optimistic that the party would win power in 2016 considering the current happenings in the NDC and the NPP.
