The demand for goods and services for the New Year celebration has unexpectedly shot up in the Koforidua Municipality.

A survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in the Municipality prior to the Christmas holidays indicated that, there was low demand and patronage of goods and services on the market, but a new survey after the Christmas holidays showed a sudden increase in demand as the year draws to a close.

The survey revealed shortage of commodities like five kilogramme bag of rice at some major shops in the Municipality and there were queues at some of the shops visited.

Speaking to the GNA, Mrs Cecelia Antwi, a shop owner said initially, demand was low but it started rising after the Christmas holidays, and it keeps getting better daily.

She expressed the hope that the high demand would be sustained till the first week of the New Year.

Mr Debrah Affum, another shop owner said “this is what we expected at the start of the festivities, because when you have a lot of items in stock and people don’t buy, you run at a loss”.

Mr Abraham Akuoko said the New Year is a special event because not all persons would live to see it, hence he must enjoy with his family and friends.
