Scores of women disrupted church activities with protests on Sunday, 4 August 2019 at the Glorious Wave Ministries International Church in Accra, founded and headed by Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi.
The group embarked on the action to demand a retraction and apology from the leader of the church, Prophet Kobi, over a bigotry statement he made about women from certain tribes in the country in a recent church service.
The irate group, who were dressed in red attire, armbands and headgear carried placards some of which read, “Fanti women are not stupid”, “Asante women are not greedy”, “Ewe women are not clueless”, and “Property owning is a blessing.”
The group continued to chant and made noise at the premises of the church for hours.
Prophet Kobi at a sermon described women from certain tribes as unwise and unmarriageable and admonished prospective husbands to avoid marrying from those tribes.
He told his congregation that: “Fanti women are foolish sometimes and Ewes too are doormats. But for Ashanti women no!... If you marry Ashanti lady, you have imported problem for yourself forever. I have done research and it is so and I’ll never marry an Ashanti woman…”
Meanwhile, another group of women known as Women Caucus-Kumasi Parliament has issued a release calling on Prophet Kobi to apologise to Ghanaian women for his comments.
His comment has attracted criticisms from various sections of the public but the prophet is yet to issue an apology.
