The Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has berated persons pushing the courts to grant amnesty to those who engaged in acts of lawlessness during the recently held Democracy Hub demonstration.
The protests, held at Accra’s 37 Roundabout, escalated when some protesters blocked roads, dismantled police barriers, obstructed traffic, and burned property.
As of now, 54 protesters have been detained, with nine in prison custody and the rest in police custody.
The decision of the Circuit Court has been condemned by individuals and various groupings, including the main opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Commenting on these calls on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday, 30th September 2024, monitored by Angelonline.com.gh, Miracles Aboagye said he has failed to fathom the reason behind the incessant calls for the release of the lawless demonstrators.
To him, calls for their release are akin to praising the demonstrators for engaging in acts of vandalism and blocking roads leading to a tertiary hospital.
“Those who are condemning the police and demanding that the court release the demonstrators should know that the courts are only doing their work. Maybe, they should equally demand the release of rapists, armed robbers, and other criminals as well.
“Why should people’s lives stop because some 50 people are protesting? Didn’t you see Oliver sheepishly enter a police vehicle, take the key and run… what was a whole grown-up like him intending to teach the younger generations with this act?” he quizzed.
