Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, is calling for an end to political interference in Ghana’s security services recruitment, saying the process needs to be fair, transparent, and open to every qualified young person, no matter their background or connections.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme, on March 17, 2026, following the recent presidential announcement about ramping up recruitment into the police, immigration, fire service, and other agencies, the MP voiced growing worries that party loyalists are sometimes getting unfair advantages over more deserving applicants.

“We should sit back and take our hands off the security recruitment so that the process can be fair and give every qualified Ghanaian an equal opportunity,” he stated.

To make things more equitable nationwide, Osei Nyarko suggested a simple but practical fix: the government should set aside a fixed number of recruitment slots for each region based on the total population in the geographical area.

He argued that the above strategy will afford talented young people across the country a real chance, not just those close to power and political network.

He warned that if nothing changes, this problem of politicisation will keep happening, regardless of the party in government.

The MP made it clear his comments aren’t about scoring political points; he’s speaking as someone genuinely concerned about the country’s future.

“I am not speaking because I am in opposition, but as a concerned citizen who wants to see fairness and improvement in the system,” he stated.

With hundreds of thousands of young Ghanaians applying for limited security jobs amid high unemployment, his call is for a system that truly rewards merit and gives everyone a level playing field.
