Immigrating Officers have detained an Indian Businessman whose deportation was quashed by the Accra High Court on Monday after he re-entered the country.

Ashok Kumar Sivaram arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday after the court quashed his deportation by the Interior Minister.

Mr. Sivaram who had lived in Ghana for the past 17 years was deported for allegedly obtaining a fake marriage certificate to enable him stay in the country.

The court also ruled that any attempt by the state to prevent Ashok Kumar Sivaram, from coming back to Ghana will be in contempt.

According to the Court, the Interior Minister breached the rule of natural justice by not giving the plaintiff a hearing after he had been accused of allegedly committing fraud.

But Starr News has gathered that Mr. Sivaram has been detained at the Airport after he touched down early in the day.

Lawyer to Mr. Sivaram, Gary Nimako in an interview with Starr Today described the development as shocking and surprising.

According to him, he is at a loss as to why the Interior Ministry has defied a High Court ruling to prevent Mr. Sivaram from re-entering the country.

“I am extremely surprised at the turn of events,” Mr. Nimako told host Bernard Nasara Saibu adding that the “indication I get is that they [Interior Ministry and Immigration] are not willing to allow the guy enter the country.”

Mr. Nimako added that he is “shocked and surprised” and has no idea why Mr. Sivaram is still being preventing from entering the country.
