The Deputy Communications Minister, Owuraku Amofa, who left the country unceremoniously a few months ago, has in an exclusive interview with JOY FM explained that he went to the United States for medical treatment.

Before his departure, Mr. Amofa was strongly supporting the choice of Attorney General, Dr Obed Asamoah as the running mate for Professor J.E.A. Mills, the NDC presidential candidate, in the presidential elections. Many people attributed his departure to his displeasure with the selection of the Deputy Attorney General, Martin Amidu as the Party’s running mate.

Mr Amofa said he has not embezzled funds neither had he committed any crime for him to leave the country like a fugitive. The Deputy Minister, who is financing his treatment, told JOY FM that he did not publicly announce his illness because it was personal and that there were times when public officers had to maintain their privacy as well and not announce everything that they do for public consumption.

Mr. Amofa, who is the Chairman of the Egle Party, one of the two parties that have formed an alliance with the ruling NDC, reaffirmed his support for the NDC and the Progressive alliance. He told JOY FM that he has recuperated from the back ache for which he was receiving treatment in the United Sates and would return home before Christmas.
