Deputy Information Minister visits Northern Region

Tamale, Oct. 19, GNA - Mr. Frank Agyekum, Deputy Minister of Information and National Orientation, on Thursday reaffirmed the government's determination and commitment to refurbishing the Regional Offices of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and other government sub-vented departments within the Ministry to enhance their work. Mr. Frank Agyekum gave the assurance on Thursday in Tamale when he visited some media houses in the Northern Region to acquaint himself with their activities to see how best the Information Ministry could help address problems facing them.

Some of the media houses the he visited were, the Information Services Department (ISD), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Diamond FM, Filla FM, Justice Radio, Rural Media Network (RUMNET) and Simli Radio in Dalun in the Tolon/Kumbungu District. Mr. Agyekum said it was important for media houses in the regions particularly the GNA and the GBC to be well equipped to conform with the modern communication technological developments. He deplored the conditions under which the personnel of the Tamale office of the GNA were working and pledged to source an additional computer for the office to enable it to cover the large region. Mr. Paul Osei-Tutu, Northern Regional Manager of the GNA asked the Minister to use his influence to approve funds to renovate the entire block of the GNA office to befit its status. Mr. Agyekum later organised a press soiree for the media where he advised journalists not report on the negative side of the region so as to deter potential investors.

He said Tamale was the focal point of conflict, which people outside the region perceived Tamale be volatile and violent, difficult to coexist with the people and that if negative stories continue to originate from there the situation would never improve.
